Radley Robots
SUMMARY
Radley Robots is a Canadian startup developing an app for iPads on robots to combat social isolation for older adults. My job is to design preliminary screens for robots that will be interacting with senior residents and visitors.
TOP SKILL
Remote Interviews

Problem Statement
Radley Robots will help older adults suffering from social isolation in retirement communities by aiding communication between residents and their families, facility staff, and volunteers. The robots will also increase staff efficiency by performing routine tasks.
Constraints
Design high-fidelity screens for an iPad and conduct user-testing before the pilot program goes live in two retirement facilities.
Research Objective
Analyze direct and indirect competitors' solutions to determine their strengths and weaknesses to find a competitive edge for Radley Robots and design high fidelity screens.

Robot Competitor Analysis
I decided to start the design process by researching primary competitors. After collecting technical information about each robot, I decided to plot them to compare their features and human interaction capabilities.
App Indirect Competitor Analysis
After analyzing competitor robot features, I researched tablet apps for COVID-19 questionnaires, retirement facilities, and telemedicine to find possible solutions and MVP features.
Findings
There are many robotic companies, but few of them had robots on the market and deployed on a large scale
Radley Robots is the most affordable rental robot on the market ($40/day)
Unique features for Radley Robots: human interaction and COVID questionnaire
Personal robots lack human video check-in capabilities
Sketches & Wireframes
I drew preliminary sketches for the concierge app to try out as many organization concepts quickly and efficiently. One the primary idea was selected, I produced wireframes.
Color Palette
I decided to use Radley Robot's icon to derive a color palette and use on the high-fidelity screens.
High-Fidelity Ideation & A/B Testing
Using the wireframes as guide, I added more detail to screens in order get closer to final product fidelity. I created at least two versions for every screen to conduct A/B testing with 5 users.

Findings
Users want polite language to be added before and after interacting with robot
Users are concern about their privacy and prefer to have multiple choice answers with ranges (for instance age)
Users prefer simple design with large text with visual feedback after their responses
Users want to send a message to their loved ones if they are denied entry

Current High-Fidelity Screens
I incorporated user testing feedback and redesigned the high fidelity screen for further design ideation and user testing.

Conclusion
I'm currently working for Radley Robots, and the project is still active and in full force. We aim to have a functioning screen design at the end of November and deploy the robots in two retirement facilities for a pilot program. The UX Research will continue during the pilot.
